What Can Men Do To Prevent Baldness?

Prevent BaldnessHe’s wearing that ball cap… again. His browser history these days reads like a medical researcher’s. He might even be a bit panicked. For some guys, their hair is no big deal. For others, watching it thin and recede is enough to prompt a minor existential crisis. The best thing you can do for your guy is to be supportive and maybe do a little research on your own. That way, if he decides to take massive action to prevent baldness, you’ll understand his options, too.

Male balding does not tend to be caused by excess sweat, constant baseball cap wear, or wearing a really tight ponytail, or even just a nutrition deficiency. Usually, this issue is due to a genetic disposition known as androgenetics, and the root cause is a hormone called androgens. Certain hair follicles may have a sensitivity to particular hormone activities, resulting in rejection by the body. Two common treatments used to prevent baldness are either undergoing some hormone therapy or beginning taking stimulants designed to trigger hair regrowth. Here are a few treatments for hair loss available to men.

1. Plastic Surgery for Baldness

Out of all of the balding treatment methods, this one is most reliable. When it comes to surgery, there are three different options to choose from. Firstly is a scalp reduction surgery in which a little bald patch on your scalp gets reduced surgically. This is effective for men with a smaller bald spot as opposed to a big one on top of the head.

Another surgical method is transplantation, a procedure in which a surgeon moves some of the hair in the back of your scalp to an area of the scalp without a lot of hair. This option is great for someone with bald spots only in front of their scalp. Particular considerations determine if a candidate will be suitable for this kind of treatment, sure as hair texture, nature of the hair loss, the age of the candidate, and hair color.

Flap surgeries are used for those with extensive hair loss. Surgeons implant some tissue expanders underneath the part of the scalp with hair. These expanders are then inflated using saline for the next two months. The purpose of this is to make sure your scalp has enough skin to use for a transplant. Then, during surgery, the balding scalp sections get removed and then replaced with some regrown skin.

2. Hair Growth Stimulants

This treatment is used to help men be able to regrow a thicker head of hair. As this treatment doesn’t directly address the main cause of balding, this method is not considered to be as effective as some other hair loss treatments. This is because you will grow more hair but you’ll need to lose it also. This treatment works by stimulating your hair follicles that shut down, no longer producing hair. Then the follicles get re-awakened to begin creating more hair.

3. DHT Inhibitors

Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, is something that free testosterone is occasionally converted into. Some men have higher free testosterone levels than others. Due to genetics, some men’s hair follicles start to respond to the conversion to DHT by shrinking. The DHT inhibitors work to reduce these DHT levels to avoid damage to the follicles. In addition, this treatment also helps to prevent the conversion of free testosterone to DHT. Most of the time, the treatment will be administered alongside the use of antiandrogens because these help men to handle the negative side effects that come with lower DHT levels.

4. Anti-Inflammatories

This treatment is often used in conjunction with various other treatment regimens for hair loss. Throughout the treatment process, some men experience redness on the scalp, and therefore the anti-inflammatories help with hormonal reactions.

When trying to decide what treatment approach to take for your male hair loss, you should consider which of these four methods would work best for you. You can do this by consulting a doctor to discuss various methods of treatment.
